More than 1500 political appointments canceled due to Kathmandu ordinance, posts of 150 bodies vacant
Kathmandu. More than 1500 political appointments were canceled as soon as the ordinance approved by Nepalese President Ramchandra Paudel was published in the Gazette. With this, more than 1,500 posts of 150 public bodies became vacant today. The “Special Provisions Ordinance regarding removal of public officials” issued on Saturday has been published in the Gazette on Sunday.
The ordinance impacts many government bodies, including universities, public institutions, committees, boards and various authorities. Political appointments made during the tenure of previous governments have been cancelled.
The appointments made during the government led by former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Sher Bahadur Deuva, Pushp Kamal Dahal Prachanda and former Chief Justice Sushila Karki come under the ambit of this ordinance.
Nepal Pragya Pratishthan, educational institutions, constitutional bodies and government broadcasting institutions have also been affected by this ordinance. The names of those 150 government bodies are included in the press note sent to the media from Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s secretariat.
In which a total of 1594 people appointed by the previous governments have been considered relieved from today. However, the ordinance does not provide any information regarding the removal of the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank or its board members.
