Siwan: Accident while breaking canal bridge, laborer dies after getting buried under debris
Siwan. A major accident took place late Saturday evening near Belori village of Guthni police station area of Siwan district, when an old canal bridge suddenly collapsed while demolishing it. In this accident, one laborer died on the spot after getting buried under the debris, while many other laborers were injured.
The deceased has been identified as Vyas Kushwaha, son of Haricharan Kushwaha, resident of Khajuri East Tola of Kuchaykot police station area of Gopalganj district. It is said that Vyas Kushwaha was engaged in the construction work of a new bridge in Belaudi village with a contractor for the last several days.
According to family members, the old bridge was being demolished for the construction of a new bridge. During this time the workers were working with limited resources. Suddenly a part of the bridge collapsed and many workers were buried under the debris.
After the incident, all the laborers were taken out with the help of local villagers, but by then Vyas Kushwaha had died.
Other workers injured in the incident have been admitted to the local hospital, where their treatment is ongoing. After the accident, the contractor’s people have fled from the spot.
The police conducted post-mortem of the body. There is an atmosphere of mourning and anger in the area regarding the incident. Local people have demanded the administration to investigate the matter and take strict action against the culprits.
