Cardiologists Warned Me About Plastic, So I’ve Been Using These Non-Toxic Containers

They sold out, but they’re finally back in stock.

I cook almost every meal at home, which means my kitchen isn’t just well-stocked with food, but also with food storage containers. Part of my job as a product tester is to cycle through new releases, containers included, and a year ago, the Bentgo Signature Glass Storage set landed on my doorstep after launching. I looked at the box and felt a little uninspired to try them—I mean, could glass containers really be all that revolutionary?

It turns out that these entered my life at the perfect time, as I was struggling to find a better alternative to plastic. I’ve owned plenty of glass containers, but brands weren’t really coming out with options that didn’t include plastic lids or cost a whole month’s pay. As I started to use the Bentgo containers day-to-day, I realized how special they were. The set strikes the perfect combination of durability, function, design and value. After a year of daily use, I can’t imagine my kitchen without them. They sold out completely after launching, so I’m not the only one in love with the design. Now’s your chance to grab a set of your own.

These containers are made from two types of glass and silicone, making them completely plastic-free. After interviewing cardiologists and other experts, I took their advice on microplastics and began to shed unnecessary plastic products from my kitchen. That was the main reason I gravitated towards the Bentgo containers before others in my cabinet. When I realized how functional they were, they became a go-to for reasons beyond their materials.

The bases are made from durable borosilicate glass (the type of glass Pyrex is known for), which can handle rapid temperature changes. Even with daily use, I haven’t experienced a wrong tap on the counter leading to a crack or chipping, or worse, shattering glass. The lids are rimmed with silicone to protect the edges and create a leakproof seal and you can actually feel the air push out as you place it onto the base. Luckily, I’ve yet to experience any staining or odor absorption on the silicone.

The top panels on the lids are made using tempered glass, which is more resistant to breakage than borosilicate. This gives you incredible thermal resistance in the base and super strength in the lid. Borosilicate is also lighter than tempered glass, making the overall container feel much less cumbersome. The glass containers are freezer-, refrigerator-, and oven-safe up to 950°F (excluding the lids), and you can also pop them in the dishwasher for a deep clean.

There’s not much I’d say against these containers, apart from their upfront cost, though they prove their value over time. Since they sold out initially, I wouldn’t hesitate to grab a set while they’re freshly restocked. Shop the 10-piece option now, or pick up one of the other sets below.
