Inauguration of National Seminar on Guru Teg Bahadur: Life and Teachings
Patna. A national seminar on the topic “Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji: Life and Teachings” was organized on the sacred grounds of Patna Sahib under the joint aegis of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi and Takht Shri Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib. This event is an important part of the series of programs organized across the country to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji.
The chief guest of the program was Honorable Governor of Bihar, Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain, while the Deputy Chairman of Bihar Legislative Council, Prof. Ramvachan Rai was present. The program was presided over by Dr. Madhav Kaushik, President of Sahitya Akademi. On this occasion, there was a dignified presence of many dignitaries including Takht Shri Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Baldev Singh, Sardar Jagjot Singh Sohi, Sardar Inderjit Singh, Sardar Gurinder Singh, Sardar Harbans Singh Khanuja and Sardar Lakhwinder Singh. Pro. Ravel Singh (Former Secretary, Punjabi Academy, Delhi) was also specially present.
The program started with the lighting of the lamp, which is a symbol of knowledge, truth and hope, after which the guests were felicitated. In his address, Honorable Governor Lieutenant General Syed Ata Hasnain presented the life and teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji in a very impressive and heart-touching manner and said that his martyrdom is the supreme example of human rights, religious freedom and unwavering devotion to the truth. Describing the life of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji as a unique symbol of courage, tolerance and sacrifice, he stressed its contemporary relevance. He also mentioned that he has deep respect for the principles of Sikhism and has a special relationship with the Sikh community.
Vice President of Bihar Legislative Council Prof. Ramvachan Rai, in his speech, threw light on the life of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji and the shared cultural and spiritual heritage of this holy land of Bihar, while Dr. Madhav Kaushik, President of Sahitya Akademi, in his welcome address described this initiative of Sahitya Akademi as important towards the wide spread of Guru Sahib’s teachings.
Pro. Ravel Singh gave the seed lecture. The inaugural session was conducted by Prof. Done by Harpreet Kaur, Principal, Mata Sundari College for Women, University of Delhi. The program ended with a vote of thanks, in which Lakhbinder Singh, Senior Vice President, Takht Sri Harmandir Ji, Patna Sahib expressed his gratitude towards all the guests and participants.
This seminar not only became a platform for academic discussion, but also proved to be an inspiring opportunity to recall the ideals of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji – truth, sacrifice and humanity.
During this two-day seminar, many eminent litterateurs, scholars and researchers from across the country will present their research papers, in which various aspects of the life, philosophy and teachings of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji will be discussed in depth.
