Karnataka Assembly elections were held in the year 2023. Then after counting of votes in Sringeri seat, Congress’s Rajagowda was shown winning over BJP’s Jivraj by 201 votes. The returning officer of Sringeri told the media that in the re-counting of votes, Jivraj’s votes came down to 690. Whereas, Rajegowda’s votes decreased by 255. According to the returning officer, on the instructions of the Karnataka High Court, the postal ballot was counted again in Sringeri seat. After which the report has been sent to the Election Commission. After counting of votes, Jivraj had said that he was expecting to get the certificate of winning the election from the returning officer, but now he will wait.

At the same time, TD Rajegowda, who was previously elected Congress MLA from Sringeri seat, has alleged rigging in the postal ballot. Rajegowda said that the ballot papers cast in his favor were marked in front of Congress. He said that in 2023, all ballot papers were considered valid in the presence of officers. Now those votes have been declared invalid. Rajegowda expressed suspicion that the BJP candidate had manipulated his votes to reduce his votes. Overall, with the re-counting of votes on Sringeri seat, politics in Karnataka seems to be heating up again. A total of 1822 postal ballots were cast in Shringeri assembly seat. On the orders of the High Court, the officers re-examined 279 rejected postal ballots. Also 1543 postal ballots were re-counted.
