Yogi government is picking people’s pockets by forcibly installing prepaid meters: Vinay Patel
On this occasion, Ayodhya Province President Vinay Patel said that the smart meter scheme in Uttar Pradesh has completely failed and instead of providing relief to the public, it has now become a medium of economic exploitation. He said that smart meters have become so “smart” that they immediately cut off power as soon as the balance is exhausted, but even after recharging, power is not restored for 10 to 12 hours. This system is not only technically unsuccessful, but also raises serious questions on the intentions of the government.
He said that till now about 78 to 80 lakh smart meters have been installed in the state, out of which about 70 lakh are prepaid meters and lakhs of consumers are troubled by wrong billing, fast balance depletion and power cuts. In many cases, where earlier the electricity bill used to be up to ₹ 1500, it is now increasing to ₹ 6000–7000. This is a direct attack on the public’s pocket.
