Boxing: Names of 40 Indian boxers missing from SAI letter, will be out of Commonwealth and Asian Games
Sports Authority of India: The new approval letter issued by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for the national camp has created a big problem for the country’s top boxers. The names of about 40 boxers have not been included in this letter, after which clouds of uncertainty are looming over their future and participation in the upcoming competitions. Now serious apprehensions have arisen regarding the participation of these boxers in the selection trials for the Commonwealth Games and Asian Games to be held this year.
There was a stir due to the disappearance of the name
As per the selection policy of Indian Boxing Federation, the ‘Chief of Army Staff Cup’ was held from March 30 to April 5. The boxers securing the top two positions in 20 weight categories (10 each in men’s and women’s categories) at the (COS) were to be included in the national camp. This camp was scheduled to start from 25th April.
In the policy issued in December last year, it was clearly stated that these 40 boxers would be eligible for the evaluation tests, on the basis of which the Indian teams for the Commonwealth Games, Asian Games and World Boxing Cup were to be selected. But on April 29, the federation was given ‘SAI’ The names of these 40 boxers were not included in the letter received from.
The federation is busy solving the matter
The Indian Boxing Federation said on Friday that the approval in this case was received on April 29, 2026, but 40 names are completely missing from the list. The federation is in constant touch with the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to resolve this serious issue, but has not received any satisfactory response from their side yet. Due to this technical problem, the evaluation process, which was scheduled to begin on May 5, has now been postponed by a day. Now this process will start from May 6.

Players expressed deep displeasure
Sharing his pain, a boxer affected by this decision said that the players were clearly told that if they win the COS Cup, they will get a place in the national camp. Like last year, the same policy was in force this time too, so players are not able to understand where this problem suddenly came from. The players believe that this is the only and right way to join the camp and compete for the country in the Commonwealth and Asian Games, and stopping them like this is playing with their future.
