The results of the assembly elections of four states and one union territory of the country will come today.
New Delhi. The results of the assembly elections held in four states and one union territory of the country will be revealed today. These states are- West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry. The eyes of the entire country are fixed on these results. Counting of votes will begin at 8 am amid tight security arrangements. The postal ballot will be counted first. After this the EVM votes will be counted. The complete picture is expected to become clear by evening.
Apart from this, counting of votes will also take place today on eight seats in five states. This is the seat where by-elections were held last month after the demise of the sitting MLAs. These include Ponda in Goa, Bagalkot and Davanagere South in Karnataka, Koridang in Nagaland, Dharmanagar in Tripura, Umreth in Gujarat and Rahuri and Baramati seats in Maharashtra.
Record turnout, tight security and technological innovations such as live webcasting in this election indicate the evolution of the electoral process. By this evening the picture will be clear as to which party or alliance will come to power. The election results of these states will have a big impact not only on regional but also on national politics.
In the election results of five states, people will have the most attention on West Bengal. Most exit polls show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the lead. If the exit poll projections turn into results, then Mamata Banerjee will have to go from power with the departure of Trinamool Congress from power in West Bengal. Kerala may prove to be a puzzle for BJP this time too. This is what the exit poll estimates say. Till now, BJP’s account in the state assembly was opened for the first time in 2016.
According to the projections of many exit polls, new political equations can be seen in Tamil Nadu. According to exit polls, BJP will make a comeback in Assam. This will further strengthen the position of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in BJP. N in Union Territory of Puducherry. The AINRC and BJP coalition government under the leadership of Rangasamy is expected to remain in power.
Counting of votes will take place at 77 centers for 293 seats of the 294-member West Bengal Assembly. Voting has been canceled due to irregularities in Phalta seat of South 24 Parganas district. Re-polling will be held in Phalta on May 21. This time, unprecedented security arrangements have been made in the state in view of the counting of votes. The Election Commission of India has deployed 165 additional counting observers and 77 police observers. No one except returning officers and observers will be able to carry mobile phones at the counting centres. There will be a three-tier security cordon at the counting centres. For the first time, the Commission has introduced QR code based photo identity card system for counting staff to prevent unauthorized entry into counting centres.
