Great news for railway employees, government gave a gift
New Delhi. A major change has been made in health services for railway employees, pensioners and their dependents. Now the treatment process in 128 railway hospitals and 582 health units across the country will become completely digital and paperless. This step is being considered as an important improvement towards making the health system of Railways modern and fast.
Now the paper work is over, the entire system is digital
Under the new system, the entire process of treatment, medicine distribution and referral of patients will be done on the digital platform. This will not only save time but will also make record keeping and sharing information easier. Patients will now just have to use their Unique Medical Identification (UMID) card and the HMIS app, where their entire medical history will be safe.
HMIS app will create complete medical records
All health related information of patients will be available on HMIS (Health Management Information System) app. This will include doctor’s advice, list of medicines, test reports and referral details. With this system, patients will be able to easily get treatment by going to any railway hospital in the country, because their complete medical history will already be available in the system.
Easy identification and treatment with UMID card
UMID cards of about 90 percent of railway employees and their families have already been made. Through this card, patients can download the app on their mobile and avail all their medical services. This card simplifies patient identification and speeds up the treatment process.
Facility will be provided through digital referral system
The referral process has also been digitalized in the new system. Now patients will be able to get treatment in empaneled private hospitals also through UMID card and OTP based verification. In case of emergency, patients can start treatment even without referral, which will save time in serious cases.
Special facilities for senior citizens and serious patients
Cashless OPD and check-up facilities will be provided to railway pensioners above 70 years of age, provided they are not in receipt of Fixed Medical Allowance. Apart from this, digital referral system has also been implemented in cases of serious diseases like cancer and transplant, so that patients will not have to undergo the procedure again and again.
