LPG ship found safe for the first time amid American blockade, big relief for India
Knews Desk-Amidst international tension and American blockade, news of a big relief for India’s energy sector has come to light. An LPG tanker named MT Sarva Shakti, operating under the flag of Marshall Islands, has now entered the Gulf of Oman after crossing the Strait of Hormuz and is heading towards India.
The ship has left for India carrying approximately 46,313 tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which will play an important role in the country’s energy supply. According to estimates, this tanker can reach Visakhapatnam port by May 13.
Travel amid tensions in the Strait of Hormuz
The Strait of Hormuz has long been considered the most sensitive route for global energy supplies. Recently, there was a sharp decline in trade activities through this route due to the alleged naval blockade of Iranian ports by the US and regional tensions. According to reports, ship traffic passing through here had reached almost zero level for some time. In such an environment, this tanker connected to Indian energy supply was successful in crossing the route safely, which is being considered an important achievement.
Indian Navy Security Surveillance
After leaving Hormuz, the tanker has been taken under the security surveillance of the Indian Navy in the Gulf of Oman. According to security agencies, there is a 20-member crew on board the ship, which includes 18 Indian citizens. The ship, chartered by Indian Oil Corporation, is considered strategically important for India’s energy interests.
Important contribution to India’s energy needs
This LPG cargo is capable of meeting a major portion of India’s daily gas supply. According to estimates, the gas present in it can meet India’s needs for about half a day. At a time when there is instability in the global market regarding energy supply, this shipment has brought relief to India.
First successful transit in war-like conditions
According to reports, this is the first Indian tanker to safely transit the Strait of Hormuz amid recent regional tensions and blockade-like situations. Earlier several Indian owned or flagged ships were reported stranded in the area. Many shipping companies had to change routes due to uncertainty, but the successful journey of ‘Sarva Shakti’ is being considered a positive sign.
activism of government agencies
Various ministries of the Government of India, including the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and the Ministry of External Affairs, are continuously monitoring the situation. The shipping control room has handled thousands of calls and emails and also helped in the safe return of many seafarers.
This visit of MT Sarv Shakti is not only important for India’s energy supply, but also shows that despite complex global conditions, secure supply can be ensured through strategic planning and international coordination. This shipment can further strengthen India’s energy security in the coming days.
