Crackdown on Shahab in Siwan, big police raid on MLA Osama’s hideouts

Sanjay Singh, Patna: The commotion intensified in Bihar’s Siwan district on Monday morning when several police vehicles reached two different locations simultaneously with sirens blaring. This was not a normal action, but a major raid on the premises of Osama Shahab, son of former MP Mohammad Shahabuddin and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA from Raghunathpur. This high-profile action has created a stir in the political and administrative circles of the entire district.

 

Police simultaneously raided the ancestral house at Pratappur in Hussainganj police station area and the house at Nai Qila in Nagar police station area. Tight security arrangements were made during the intensive search that lasted for about 40 minutes. Both the areas were converted into police cantonments, so that there is no hindrance in the operation.

DIG and SP themselves on the front

The seriousness of this action can be gauged from the fact that it was led by Saran Range DIG Nilesh Kumar and Siwan SP Puran Kumar Jha himself. A large number of soldiers including police from many police stations, SDPO Ajay Kumar Singh, Gauri Kumari were present with him. After the raid, DIG Nilesh Kumar said in a strict tone that the land mafia of Siwan should now leave the city as the police is in a mood to take decisive action against them. His statement has made it clear that the clampdown on such elements is going to tighten further in the coming days.

What is the whole matter?

Actually, this action is related to a serious case registered in Mahadeva police station area. Dr. Sudha Singh, wife of Dr. Vinay Kumar Singh, resident of Manjhagarh, Gopalganj, has alleged that an attempt was made to take over her land through extortion. During the investigation in this case, names of many people including MLA Osama Shahab came to light. According to the police, after sufficient evidence was found in the investigation of the case, a search warrant was obtained from the court, on the basis of which this action was taken. Although no one has been arrested at present, the police has clearly indicated that the further legal process will be swift.

This sudden raid created an atmosphere of chaos in Pratappur and Nai Qila areas. At first the local people could not understand why the police had arrived in such large numbers, but as soon as the matter came to light, discussions became heated. Many people have called it a big blow to the alleged land mafia network running in Siwan, while some are seeing it as a sign of major change in the political circles.
