He told that Vartulasana is such a yoga asana which brings the body in a circular position. It provides the same benefits as Halasana, in which the body is twisted and moved backwards, thereby stretching the spine.

Shetty further said that this asana activates the thyroid gland, which improves metabolism. It improves digestion and increases blood circulation, as well as strengthens the shoulders and upper back.

He advised to do yoga in the right way and warned that if anyone has problems like back pain, slip disc, cervical spondylosis or hernia, then they should not practice this asana.

The importance of Vartulasana has also been accepted in Ayurveda and Yoga tradition. This asana helps in keeping the body balance, digestion and nerves healthy. It is primarily a Hatha Yoga asana, but its benefits match Ayurveda’s principles of tridosha balancing.

To do this, sit in Padmasana posture. Place your hands on the ground between your thighs and knees. While inhaling, lift your body up with the help of your hands and maintain balance. Stay in this posture for a few seconds, then slowly come back. This asana tones the abdominal organs, which improves digestion and proper absorption of food.
