Yogi government’s big gift: Government recruitment and promotion rules changed in UP, cabinet approved

Lucknow: The Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh has taken a big decision for the youth and existing employees preparing for government jobs. In the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday, a historic change in the rules of ‘selection year’ has been approved to give more speed to the process of recruitment and promotion. The government has passed ‘Uttar Pradesh Public Service (Substitution of Definition of Year of Recruitment) Rules, 2026’.

What is the big change?

Till now, the ‘selection year’ for recruitments and promotions within government departments in Uttar Pradesh started from July 1 and continued till June 30 next year. But now the Yogi cabinet has changed it according to the ‘calendar year’. This means that now the selection year will be considered starting from 1st January till 31st December. The impact of this seemingly small change is going to be very widespread, which will lead to a major improvement in the entire administrative system.

Counting of vacant posts will be accurate

The government believes that by fixing the selection year according to the calendar year (January to December), the calculation of vacant posts in departments will be more accurate and timely. Till now, in the July to June system, there was often delay in assessment of vacant posts, due to which recruitment commissions took time in sending proposals. With the new rule, recruitment advertisements will now be released on time and youth will get job opportunities quickly.

Employees will get big benefit in promotion

Officials of the Personnel Department said that earlier due to the cut-off date of July 1, those employees who were to retire between January and July were at a loss. They could not complete the required service period and retired without promotion. Now with the new cut-off date of December 31, thousands of such employees will be able to get the benefit of promotion. Also, there will be transparency in the promotion process and there will be better coordination between departments.

There will be a direct impact on recruitment

As soon as the order to amend this rule is issued, all the departments will prepare the data of vacant posts afresh. This will speed up the process of upcoming government recruitments. This step of the Yogi government is being considered as a milestone in the direction of administrative reforms, which will not only boost the morale of the existing employees, but will also make the path to government jobs easier for the unemployed youth of the state.
