Afghanistan increased security on the Pak border, why is the Taliban angry with its own Supreme Leader?
Kandahar: A lot is happening in Afghanistan right now. While the Taliban has increased their deployments along the Pakistani border, they are also angered by statements made by their own Supreme Leader. Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan were seen in the last week of April. Meanwhile, the Taliban have deployed hundreds of fighters and dozens of military vehicles in Spin Boldak, Shorabak, and the desert areas bordering Pakistan. This deployment comes amid recent attacks from Pakistan. Sources at Afghanistan International reported that the Taliban have also set up new checkpoints in these border districts and deployed a large number of fighters there. These fighters are reportedly part of the thousands of soldiers who were called to Kandahar from the southern and southwestern provinces in April. Recently, the Taliban’s Supreme Leader in Afghanistan, Hibatullah Akhundzada, stated that his beliefs are akin to obeying the orders of Allah and the Prophet, which has angered the Taliban.
According to reports, the Taliban has changed its strategy following Pakistani attacks in Spin Boldak and Kunar provinces. Earlier in late March, reports emerged that the Taliban had begun gathering fighters from various provinces in Kandahar following Pakistani airstrikes. Around 1,000 soldiers each were deployed from provinces like Herat, Farah, Nimroz, and Uruzgan. Initially, these deployments were intended to protect Kandahar, but most have now been deployed to border areas. In recent weeks, Pakistan has fired mortars, prompting Taliban retaliation. Gunfire rang out in the area for hours. However, casualties have not yet been confirmed.
A recent statement by Hibatullah Akhundzada, the supreme leader of the Taliban in Afghanistan, has sparked controversy within the organization. His statement of “unconditional obedience” has now sparked open displeasure from some Taliban members. According to reports, several members say Akhundzada is positioning himself as a “prophet,” creating unease within the organization. In a meeting with Finance Ministry officials in Kandahar, Akhundzada stated that obeying his orders is “like obeying Allah and the Prophet.” He clearly warned that anyone who disobeys his orders will face the “severest punishment.”
