High Court strict on mosque demolition notice

While hearing the petition filed in Allahabad High Court regarding the mosque demolition notice, the court has adopted a strict stance. At present, the court has ordered to maintain status quo in the matter and has stopped the administration from taking any kind of action.

This petition has been filed on behalf of the Waqf Masjid Committee, in which the demolition notice issued by the local administration has been challenged. The petitioners argued before the court that the rules were not followed in the process of issuing the notice and this action is arbitrary and illegal.

During the hearing, the court listened seriously to the arguments of both the parties. The court asked the administration to clarify what legal procedures were followed before issuing the notice. Besides, the petitioners have also been instructed to present concrete evidence in their favor.

Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the court ordered to maintain the status quo with immediate effect, due to which any kind of demolition or administrative action at the concerned site has been banned for the time being.

The court has scheduled the next hearing of the case on May 15. On that day both sides have been asked to present their case in detail. After this order, the situation in the area remains calm at present, while both the sides have started preparing for the next hearing.
