Pillar of Vikramshila bridge fell in Bihar, traffic halted

Bureau Prayagraj. Collapse of bridges in Bihar is not a new thing. Once again a similar scene has been seen. Pillar number 133 of Vikramshila Bridge has taken water samadhi. This has increased the problems of common people. Actually, Vikramshila Bridge connects Bhagalpur and Navgachia. It is being said that after the initial portion towards Bhagalpur caved in, about 33 meters of it got submerged in the river Ganga. At around 12:50 midnight, a big slab of the road suddenly broke and fell into the Ganga near pillar number 133 of the bridge. After the incident, there was chaos in the entire area and traffic was completely disrupted.

It is fortunate that a major accident was averted due to the alertness of the policemen and administration deployed at the spot. There were many vehicles present on the bridge at that time but in time all of them were retreated and taken to a safe place. As soon as information about the incident was received, District Magistrate Naval Kishore Chaudhary reached the spot and took stock of the situation. “In view of security, traffic on Vikramshila Bridge has been completely stopped. Barricading has been done at both ends of the bridge. Also, a team of technical experts has been called for investigation.”- Naval Kishore Chaudhary, District Magistrate, Bhagalpur.
