KR Periyakaruppan Lost by 1 Vote: DMK minister KR Periakaruppan lost the Tirupattur seat by a margin of just one vote. Thalapathy Vijay’s party changed the political equation with just one vote. Thalapathy Vijay’s party TVK has emerged as the biggest force by winning 108 seats.
South superstar Vijay’s party Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam has made a historic performance in its first major election. In the results of all 234 seats in the state, TVK has become the largest party by winning 108 seats. Whereas, the ruling DMK stood second with 59 seats and AIADMK stood third with 47 seats. Congress had to be satisfied with only 5 seats.
A real example of the power of democracy
The biggest example of the importance of every vote in democracy was seen in Tirupattur assembly seat of Tamil Nadu. Veteran DMK leader and Cooperation Minister KR Periakaruppan lost the election by a margin of just 1 vote. At the end of counting, TVK candidate Seenivas Sethupathi got 83,375 votes, while Periakaruppan stood second with 83,374 votes. This is considered to be one of the closest contests in recent election history.
TVK storm in Tamil Nadu
In this election, not only Periakaruppan but many big political faces have had to taste defeat. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin himself lost his Kolathur seat. He was defeated by TVK’s VS Babu by a margin of 8,795 votes. Talking about the election results of Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been defeated by Suvendu Adhikari in her stronghold Bhawanipur by more than 15,000 votes.

These results of Tamil Nadu have made it clear that the people of the state have chosen a new option apart from the traditional Dravidian politics. While on one hand there is talk of BJP’s victory in Bengal and the promises of 7th Pay Commission, on the other hand the rise of Vijay’s party in the South is being considered as the beginning of a new political era. The Tirupattur incident has given a clear message that no victory in politics can be taken lightly and each vote has the power to change the picture of power.
