Bharatiya Janata Party, which was searching for political ground in the state for a long time, was successful in ousting the 15-year-old Mamata government from power on the same day. BJP, which won only 3 seats in the 2016 assembly elections, changed the entire equation in 10 years and is going to form the government in Bengal for the first time by winning 207 seats in 2026.
Many claims are being made regarding the victory of BJP in this election. Some are calling it Modi’s magic, while others are calling it a failure of Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year tenure. Home Minister Amit Shah is the first character of BJP’s historic victory in Bengal. The last time the results of Bengal Assembly elections came on 2 May 2021. The election results were reviewed two days later. Amit Shah asked Sunil Bansal and Shivprakash to prepare a detailed review report by the first week of July. Three reasons for the defeat became clear in this report.
- Fear of violence by TMC among party workers after the elections.
- In many seats, infiltrators conveyed BJP’s strategy to TMC.
- There is a need to strengthen the party cadre up to the booth level in Bengal.
Second character of historic victory
Sunil Bansal is the second character of BJP’s tsunami in Bengal in 2026. He was continuously doing ground work since 2023 and had prepared a plan for Bengal in 2025 itself. Before the 2023 Panchayat, Amit Shah made 4-5 visits here in February and April and held meetings with the workers. After this, Sunil Bansal was sent to Bengal to take charge of the Panchayat elections. They got orders to camp there till the 2026 assembly elections.
