Election Commission issued notification for formation of new assembly in West Bengal

Kolkata, 5 May. The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday issued a notification for the formation of a new assembly in the state after the completion of the electoral process in West Bengal. This notification has been sent to the Governor of West Bengal, formally signaling the end of the election process and paving the way for the formation of the new government.

A senior Election Commission official said that after the declaration of results, issuing the notification is an important constitutional step. The official said, ‘With this, the process of formation of the new assembly in West Bengal has been completed by the Commission. This helps in taking the next steps to form the government as per the prescribed procedures.

The Election Commission official said that the commission ensured all norms were followed during the conduct of the elections. He said, ‘The entire process from voting to counting was conducted in a free, fair and transparent manner, in accordance with the statutory framework.’

If Mamata Banerjee is adamant on not resigning, then what are the options?

Officials said that this notification has paved the way for the swearing in of elected representatives and the formation of the new government in the state. However, acting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who was adamant on not resigning from the post of CM, has placed the state on the brink of a constitutional crisis, which is rarely seen in Indian democracy.
