EV battery recycling between India and EU worth Rs. Announcement of joint project worth 169 crores Gujarati

New Delhi, 6 May 2026: Taking a historic step in the field of green and clean energy, the Government of India and the European Union (EU) have announced inviting proposals for EV battery recycling technology. This third consolidated invitation was launched on 5 May 2026 under the framework of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council, the main objective of which is to ensure the security of critical raw materials like lithium and cobalt. A total of Rs. A joint fund of Rs 169 crore has been allocated. This project will be jointly supported by the European Union’s ‘Horizon Europe Programme’ and India’s ‘Ministry of Heavy Industries’. For this, the last date for submitting the proposal has been fixed as 15 September 2026.

This program will focus on the aspects of technology to be developed. To achieve maximum recovery rate of precious minerals like lithium, graphite and cobalt. Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood described this partnership as an important moment in India-EU relations and stressed the need for a strong recycling ecosystem for India’s rapidly growing EV market. He said that through this green transition, direct investment will be made in mineral security and climate goals. He termed this initiative as a big leap for India towards circular economy, which will integrate the unorganized sector into the mainstream. It is hoped that this cooperation will strengthen the value chain between India and Europe and the strategic material of tomorrow will remain within the economy.
