Tamilnadu news: After registering a spectacular victory in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and superstar Vijay has reached Raj Bhavan and staked claim to form the government, but the ‘number game’ is still standing in the way of his becoming the Chief Minister. Although there was discussion that he can take oath tomorrow, but considering the current political equations, there is suspense on this at present. Even after coming out of Raj Bhavan, the eyes of the supporters are fixed on when and how Vijay will prove his majority.
Talk stuck on majority figure
Vijay met Governor R.N. He met Arlekar and expressed his desire to form the government, but as per the constitutional process, the Governor made it clear that the written support of at least 118 MLAs is necessary to run a stable government. Without this magical data the process of swearing in will not be able to proceed.
Tamilnadu news: Currently only 112 MLAs are with us
At present Vijay has the support of 112 MLAs. His party TVK has 107 MLAs and 5 Congress MLAs have given him their letter of support. The support of 6 more MLAs is still needed to reach the figure of 118 required for majority. This is why Vijay may have to wait a little longer.
Tamilnadu news: keeping an eye on colleagues
Now all eyes are on those small parties which have come into the role of kingmakers. 2 VCK MLAs will clarify their strategy on Thursday, while the stance of 4 Left MLAs is expected to be clarified by May 8. Four PMK MLAs have met Vijay, but have not yet submitted their formal letter of support to the Governor.
Number game necessary before oath
Tamilnadu news: After meeting the Governor, Vijay has asked for some more time so that he can gather the majority figure. There is discussion in political circles that until the letters of support of 118 MLAs reach Raj Bhavan, it is difficult to fix the date of the swearing-in ceremony. Vijay’s team is now making every effort to get the support of these 6 MLAs as soon as possible.
