Pune Heliport : A dedicated heliport will be set up for the first time in ‘this’ area of Pune
Pune Heliport | An ambitious project that will make a major addition to Pune city’s aviation infrastructure is now on its way to becoming a reality. The process of setting up a modern and dedicated heliport at the gliding center at Hadapsar has reached its final stage, and the work on this project is expected to start by November.
According to Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP Muralidhar Mohol, the process of transferring the land for the project to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is in the final stage. He has indicated that the preliminary works will be started as soon as the land transfer is completed and the actual construction will speed up from November. Pune Heliport
This heliport will be established by developing a gliding center spread over an area of about 250 acres in Hadapsar. Earlier this center was under the control of DGCA; But after December 2024, it was handed over to AAI on a 99-year lease, paving the way for the project.
The purpose of the proposed heliport is to provide a centralized and state-of-the-art facility for the growing helicopter traffic in and around Pune city. Currently approximately 18 to 20 helicopters are operating in the city, with around 10 permanent helipads and 30 to 35 temporary landing sites available. However, due to the dispersed system of all these, problems arise in terms of coordination and security. Pune Heliport
After the commissioning of this new heliport, it will provide a single, well-equipped and secure center for flying, landing and maintenance of helicopters. It will provide refueling facilities, hangars, modern lighting and essential amenities for passengers. This is expected to increase both efficiency and safety in the aviation sector.
Apart from this, currently Pune airport is often used for VIP helicopter flights. Shifting the load of these flights to the new heliport will reduce congestion at the main airport and ease the strain on regular air traffic.
