ChatGPT, Claude Plans To Launch AI Services Firm, Challenging TCS, Infosys
The global AI race is no longer limited to chatbots and AI models. OpenAI and Anthropic are now aggressively moving into enterprise AI services — a space traditionally dominated by Indian IT giants like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and HCLTech.
The move signals a major shift in the AI industry. Until recently, OpenAI and Anthropic mainly focused on developing powerful AI models such as ChatGPT and Claude. Now, they are building full-scale AI deployment and consulting businesses for enterprises.
From AI Tools To AI Services
According to reports, OpenAI and Anthropic are creating specialized ventures that help businesses directly implement AI systems inside their operations. These services include:
- AI workflow automation
- Enterprise AI integration
- Custom AI deployment
- AI engineering support
- AI-powered business transformation
- Autonomous AI agents for operations
This directly brings them into competition with the traditional outsourcing and consulting model used by Indian IT service companies.
Reports suggest OpenAI has launched a venture called “The Deployment Company” with backing from major investment firms. Anthropic is also said to be working on a similar enterprise-focused initiative for large businesses.
Why This Is A Big Deal For Indian IT
India’s IT industry has traditionally depended on large teams of engineers handling software development, maintenance, support, and business operations for global companies. However, AI agents are increasingly becoming capable of automating many of these tasks.
Industry experts believe AI companies entering services could disrupt:
- Billable-hours business models
- Large offshore workforce structures
- Traditional consulting operations
- Software maintenance revenue
- Business process outsourcing (BPO)
Some analysts have even described this transition as a major threat to the global IT services market.
The concern is especially important for India because companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, and HCLTech employ millions directly and indirectly.
AI Companies Are Hiring Engineers Too
Interestingly, OpenAI and Anthropic are not replacing services entirely with software. Instead, they are also building large implementation teams.
Reports indicate both companies are exploring acquisitions of AI services firms to quickly gain engineers and consultants who can deploy AI systems inside enterprises. This approach resembles the “forward-deployed engineer” model where technical experts work directly with clients to customize AI systems for real-world business use.
Anthropic has already partnered with major consulting firms to train thousands of employees on enterprise AI deployment and integration.
Indian IT Firms Are Already Responding
Indian IT companies are not ignoring the AI shift. Infosys CEO Salil Parekh recently stated that AI would reshape the industry’s traditional workforce pyramid but also create new opportunities.
Most major Indian IT firms are now:
- Building AI consulting divisions
- Developing AI agents
- Partnering with AI model companies
- Training employees in generative AI
- Creating AI-led automation platforms
These companies are trying to move beyond low-cost outsourcing toward higher-value AI transformation services.
The Real Battle May Be Over Enterprise AI Control
The bigger question is who will control enterprise AI adoption globally:
- Traditional IT service companies
- AI-native firms like OpenAI and Anthropic
- Cloud giants like Microsoft, Google, and Amazon
As AI systems become capable of performing increasingly complex workflows autonomously, the boundaries between software providers, consultants, and outsourcing firms are beginning to disappear.
For India’s IT industry, this could become one of the biggest transitions since the outsourcing boom of the early 2000s.
