Ban on entry of outsiders in hotel rooms, BCCI issues strict rules amid honeytrap threat in IPL

ipl 2026: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has issued a new security advisory for all the franchises during the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2026 season. The board now seems to be more cautious than before regarding the safety of players and support staff. For this reason, strict rules have been imposed on the entry of outsiders in the hotel and personal meetings with the players. In the official instructions sent by Devjit Saikia to all the franchises, it has been clearly stated that now no guest will be able to reach the hotel rooms of the players or support staff without permission.

The board has taken this decision after some such cases came to light, where even the team manager was not aware of the people who came to meet the players. According to the new guidelines, now any player or person coming to meet the support staff will have to first take approval from the team manager. If any visitor wants to go to the hotel room, written permission will be mandatory. No outsider will be allowed to enter the private room without approval.

BCCI has also clarified that guests meeting the players will be able to meet only in public areas of the hotel such as lobby, café or reception area. The board wants that a record of every person coming and going inside the team can be kept so that any suspicious activity can be monitored immediately. Most of the focus in the advisory has been given on honeytraps and security threats. The board has warned the franchises that since it is a high-profile tournament, there may be attempts to target players.

BCCI said that some people may try to obtain personal information, create controversy or create legal trouble by implicating players or staff. The board has also mentioned the possibility of serious allegations like sexual harassment and said that even small negligence can turn into a big controversy. For this reason, all team managers have been instructed to keep a close watch on hotel movement and visitors.

BCCI’s IPL operations team will also check from time to time whether the franchises are following these rules or not. The board has clearly indicated that any laxity in safety rules will not be tolerated. Considering the popularity and constant public presence of the players in a big tournament like IPL, BCCI now wants to be alert before any possible danger. This is the reason why this time there is more strictness than ever before regarding security and personal activities.
