Chennai, 7 May. The matter regarding the formation of the new government in Tamil Nadu has become complicated as Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has returned Thalapathy Vijay, who gathered the largest vote bank, for the second time saying that he should first bring the majority figure.
In fact, TVK chief Vijay is still a few steps away from the majority and this distance is costing him dearly to retain power. Vijay had met Governor Arlekar on Wednesday and staked claim to form the government, but the Governor had asked him to bring the supporting signatures of 118 MLAs.
When Vijay met the Governor again on Thursday, he again reiterated the same point that first bring the support of the signatures of 118 MLAs. You prove that TVK has a clear majority, only then the oath taking ceremony can take place. Sources say that the Governor’s stance is that there should be no instability after the formation of the government, hence assurance of permanent majority is necessary before the oath.
Palanisamy also asked for time to meet the Governor
Meanwhile, information is coming out that AIADMK leader Palanisamy (EPS) has also sought time to meet the Governor. Meanwhile, there is news from the DMK camp that VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan has met CM (outgoing) MK Stalin at his residence. VCK may soon take a final decision on alliance with TVK. If sources are to be believed, DMK has indicated that if VCK wants to go with TVK, the party will not try to stop it.
CPI Tamil Nadu unit raised questions on the attitude of the Governor
On the other hand, the Tamil Nadu unit of CPI has raised questions on the attitude of the Governor and said that according to the Constitution, the largest party should get an opportunity to prove majority on the floor of the Assembly. CPI said it is not fair to force TVK to prove majority before taking oath.
The state executive of the party has issued a statement saying that the Governor should work as per the Constitution. No party got a clear majority in the elections, but TVK has emerged as the largest party with 108 seats. In such a situation, according to constitutional traditions, TVK should get a chance to form the government and prove majority in the assembly.
The majority should be on the test panel and not in the Raj Bhavan.
CPI in its statement referred to Supreme Court’s S.R. Citing the Bommai decision, he said that the majority test should be held on the floor of the House and not in the Raj Bhavan. The party has appealed to the Governor to take decisions in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution and the decisions of the Supreme Court.
