Now the OTP issue is over, the entire country’s public Wi-Fi will work with just one password, know what is the new rule of TRAI
India Public WiFi Single Password: Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a ‘Consultation Paper’ in this direction, the main objective of which is to make internet access easier by removing the shortcomings of PM-WANI scheme.
TRAI New WiFi Rule Explained: You must have used public Wi-Fi at some time or the other in a railway station, hospital, park or mall. To connect to public Wi-Fi, a password is required every time and it is often seen that the password is different at every place, which is very difficult to find out. Keeping this problem in mind, the Government of India is soon going to launch a new system. Under this, the password will have to be entered only once for more than 4 lakh Wi-Fi hotspots in the country. That means this password will remain the same for all Wi-Fi hotspots in the country. Once you connect with this password, you will be able to enjoy free Wi-Fi in any corner of the country.
TRAI released consultation paper
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a ‘Consultation Paper’ in this direction, the main objective of which is to make internet access easier by removing the shortcomings of the PM-WANI scheme. After the implementation of this new system, users will not have to login through OTP repeatedly on different Wi-Fi hotspots. Rather, by entering the password only once, they will be able to use data on more than 4 lakh Wi-Fi hotspots in the country.
UPI and digital payments will be more secure
After the launch of this facility, a huge crowd of people can be seen at the Wi-Fi hotspot, for which the government has already made complete preparations. Keeping security in mind, the government will implement modern security systems like ‘Wi-Fi Protected Access 3 (WPA3)’. This will make UPI and other digital payments more secure and convenient even in crowded places. The government believes that this new system will prevent incidents like cyber fraud and data theft.

Why is the government changing the old model?
TRAI says that the old public Wi-Fi system could not be successful because the operators were not able to earn from it. Now, after the implementation of the new model, three major ways of generating revenue have been suggested for the operators.
- Small ads with free internet.
- Premium subscription for high-speed data.
- Financial assistance from the government.
