Hawa Mahal accident: The taxi driver who hit us arrested

The police has arrested the taxi driver who hit a student in front of Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The accused was caught on the basis of CCTV footage and technical investigation. Questions were raised on the police action after the incident.

Jaipur: Taking major action, the police have arrested taxi driver Hrithik Shakya (21) in the case of a road accident that took place in front of the famous tourist spot Hawa Mahal in the capital Jaipur. This action was taken by Manakchowk police station after detailed investigation and CCTV footage analysis.

Police have also recovered the taxi vehicle used in the incident, whose number is stated to be RJ14TG8523.

The entire incident was revealed through CCTV footage.

According to Jaipur Police Deputy Commissioner (North) Karan Sharma, in view of the seriousness of the case, a massive investigation operation was conducted in Hawamahal area. The police examined the footage of more than 300 CCTV cameras installed nearby.

Investigation revealed that after the accident, the accused had fled towards Sanganer via Subhash Chowk, Brahmapuri and Kotwali area. On the basis of technical tracking, the police caught the accused along with the vehicle from the Muhana area.

Negligence while taking photos

Police investigation has also revealed that the accused driver had stopped in front of Hawa Mahal for the purpose of taking photographs. During this time, he carelessly reversed the vehicle, due to which the student riding the scooter was hit.

DCP Karan Sharma said that after the collision, the driver neither informed the police nor took the injured to the hospital, but fled from the spot.

May 3 incident, students made serious allegations

This entire incident is said to have happened on May 3. After the accident, the victimized engineering students kept visiting the police station, but were accused of no action.

Students say that they complained to the police several times, but their views were not taken seriously at the initial level.

Scene of dangerous reverse driving seen in CCTV

CCTV footage of the accident later surfaced, in which it is alleged that the taxi driver tried to hit the students riding the scooter while driving in reverse and then fled from the spot.

After this video went viral, the matter rapidly came into discussion and the pressure on the police to take action increased.

The police have taken the accused into custody and started interrogation. The vehicle has been seized and sent for forensic and technical investigation.

According to officials, action is being taken in the case under sections like negligent driving, absconding after an accident and causing hurt.
