Asian Under-17 Boxing: 5 Indian boxers in quarter-finals, in final four

 India’s budding boxers performed wonders in the Asian Under-17 Boxing Championship in the ring of Tashkent. Five players reached the semi-finals after achieving a spectacular win in the quarter-finals, thereby ensuring at least five medals for the country. This performance indicates a bright future for Indian boxing.

In the 50 kg category, Yash Yadav defeated Kubanichbek Bolushov of Kyrgyzstan 4-1. In 54kg, Nivesh Pal recorded a one-sided 5-0 win over Japan’s Shingen Kanai. Naman Kumar of 70 kg category defeated Ruzibek Miravotov of Tajikistan 5-0. In 75 kg, Lakshya Phogat also defeated Cheng-En Lee of Chinese Taipei 5-0.

Although Kazakhstan boxers held off the Indians in the 60, 66 and 80+ kg categories, the overall achievement is one to be proud of. There was a stir in the women’s section also. 12 medals confirmed in Under-15 and Under-17. Rakhi’s 5-0 win in 46 kg, Khushi’s first round RSC in 48, Mamta’s second round RSC in 52, Lakshmi’s third round RSC in 54, Navya’s 5-0 in 57 and Ishika’s second round RSC in 60. India will be in the race for gold in the semi-finals.
