6 big good news for consumers in UP, electricity bill will come only once
News Desk. Relief news has emerged for the electricity consumers who are worried about smart prepaid meters in Uttar Pradesh. Taking a big decision, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited has decided to convert the smart meters running in prepaid mode into postpaid system. This is expected to provide relief to millions of consumers from frequent recharge and billing related problems.
UPPCL Managing Director Nitish Kumar has issued guidelines in this regard to all power distribution corporations. According to the order, the electricity bill for the month of May to be released in June will be given under postpaid system.
Bill will be received every month by the due date
Under the new system, preparations have been made to provide bills to electricity consumers on time every month. Instructions have been given to the officials that meter reading should be taken automatically by the 5th of every month and the bill should be sent to the consumer by the 10th. As soon as the bill is issued, information will also be sent to the consumers’ mobile numbers through SMS and WhatsApp, so that they can get the bill information on time.
Appeal to update mobile number
Superintending Engineer Vinay Kumar said that consumers whose mobile number is not registered in the department or want to get it updated can contact the concerned electricity office. If a consumer does not receive the bill then he can get the bill by sending his combination number to WhatsApp chatbot number 7669003409.
Will get time to pay bills
In postpaid system, consumers will be given time for payment till 15 days from the date of bill issue. Even after this, additional time of seven days will be given as disconnection date. If the bill is not deposited within the stipulated time, late surcharge will be imposed as per rules.
New connections will also now be postpaid
UPPCL has also made it clear that now all new electricity connections will be issued through smart meters in postpaid mode only. With this, consumers will continue to get the facility to make payment after the bill arrives like before.
Facility to deposit outstanding amount
While giving relief to domestic electricity consumers, the department has also provided the facility to pay the outstanding electricity bill in easy installments. The dues till April 30, 2026 can be deposited in ten installments. Whereas other categories of consumers will be provided the facility of three installments to pay the dues.
Special camps will be organized for complaints
Special camps and counters will be set up from May 15 to June 30 to resolve complaints related to electricity bills and smart meters. The problems of consumers will be heard in all the Executive Engineer and Sub-Divisional Officer offices. Apart from this, special arrangements are also being made on 1912 portal to resolve the complaints.
