Punjab minister Sanjeev Arora on 7-day ED remand, Kejriwal Bhagwant Mann condemned the action
ED arrested him on Saturday evening from his official residence in Chandigarh.
New Delhi. A Gurugram court has sent Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora to seven-day Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody in a money laundering case. Officials gave this information on Sunday.
Arora (62) was arrested by the ED on Saturday evening from his official residence in Chandigarh after it conducted raids against him in a GST fraud case. Along with this, ED had raided the premises of his associated company ‘Hampton Sky Realty Limited’ in Gurugram.
The company has said that it has confidence in the legal process and is fully cooperating with all authorities. Arora was brought to Gurugram by road from Chandigarh, where a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) sent him to seven-day ED custody. However, the ED had requested 10 days’ custody. The minister’s lawyer said that the ED registered the case on May 5 and the arrest was made on May 9. He called it a politically motivated action.
According to the ED, the latest investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) pertains to fake GST (Goods and Services Tax) purchase of mobile phones worth more than Rs 100 crore and subsequent repatriation of alleged ill-gotten money from Dubai to India through export. It is alleged that several fake bills of GST purchases were obtained from “non-existent” companies in Delhi to claim fake ‘Input Tax Credit’ (ITC).
Kejriwal condemned
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann condemned the ED action, accusing the Center of using agencies like ED and CBI as “weapons” to intimidate opposition leaders and force them to join the BJP. After this, BJP hit back and said that the ‘AAP’ supremo and his party are nervous because they know that their days in Punjab are numbered.
