Vijay broke the tradition of oath ceremony? CPI raised questions on playing of ‘Vande Mataram’
Now a new political controversy has started regarding the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Joseph Vijay. The controversy is over the order of the songs played in the programme. Tamil Nadu’s traditional welcome song ‘Thamitthai Vazhthu’ was placed third at the ceremony. To which the Communist Party of India (CPI) has expressed strong objection. The party says that this is against the old government traditions and fixed protocols of the state.
CPI state secretary M Veerapandian on Sunday objected to this, saying as per protocol, government programs should begin with ‘Thamitthai Vazhthu’. At Vijay’s swearing-in, ‘Vande Mataram’ was played first, followed by the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and finally the song ‘Thamitthai Vazhthu’ was played third, which is contrary to the tradition of the state.

Full statement of M Veerapandian
CPI state secretary M Veerapandian has issued a letter expressing his displeasure. He said, ‘As per the instructions given by Raj Bhavan, keeping ‘Vande Mataram’ first and Tamil song third in the program list is a violation of established traditions. Tamil Nadu government should tell the public who is responsible for this mistake. Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) should ensure that ‘Thamitthai Vaazthu’ gets priority. Such mistake should not be repeated in future.
He further said that Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and the Protem Speaker should ensure that in the assembly meeting called for the swearing-in of MLAs tomorrow, ‘Thamitthai Vazhthu’ is sung first and the national anthem is sung last. Also, this tradition should be followed in all government programs and ceremonies in future.

Vijay reached the threshold of power with the help of alliance
It is worth noting that actor-turned-politician Vijay’s party TVK on its own could not get the majority mark i.e. 118 seats in the 234-seat assembly. However, with the support of allies like Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M) and IUML, the party gathered the support of 121 MLAs and managed to form the government. TVK won 108 seats in the election, while Congress won 5 seats. Whereas VCK, CPI, CPI(M) and IUML got 2 seats each.
