NCRB: Maharashtra-Bihar lead in riot cases, not a single case in these 3 states
National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) has released the latest crime figures in India for the year 2024. According to this report, the situation of violent crimes in the country remains worrying. The report data shows that a total of 30,348 cases of riots were registered across India in the year 2024. Of these, 29,797 cases have been reported in states and 551 cases in union territories. Maharashtra has been at the top in cases related to riots and mob violence.
Analyzing the data, it is found that Maharashtra and Bihar have emerged as the most sensitive states in the country in terms of rioting or disturbing public peace. It has been made clear in the report that these figures also include such cases in which no injury has occurred but a case has been registered under the legal sections of rioting (BNS 190/IPC 147-151). On one hand, while the number of violent clashes in big states is in thousands, on the other hand, some states of the country are presenting an example of peace, where not a single case of riots was reported throughout the year.
