Tariq Jamil’s son breaks silence on viral video

A viral video showing Maulana Tariq Jamil apparently refusing to shake hands with a child has sparked widespread debate and criticism on social media.

Following the backlash, the scholar’s son, Yousaf Jamil, released a detailed clarification explaining the circumstances behind the incident.

In a video message shared on Instagram, Yousaf Jamil said many people had criticised his father after watching the short clip online. He said criticism is understandable and everyone has the right to express an opinion, but added that people should also listen to the other side before reaching conclusions.

He admitted that Maulana Tariq Jamil should ideally have greeted the child and shaken hands with him. However, he urged the public to understand the pressure and exhaustion his father faces due to his extremely busy schedule and constant public interaction.

Yousaf Jamil said millions of people around the world admire Maulana Tariq Jamil and often wait for hours just to meet him, shake hands, take pictures, or request selfies. He added that the religious scholar values the love and respect people show him and usually gives importance to meeting his followers.

He further said that anyone spending even a single day with Maulana Tariq Jamil would realise how many people surround him daily and how physically exhausting such routines can become.

Explaining the incident in detail, Yousaf Jamil said the video was recorded during the holy month of Ramadan late at night. According to him, Maulana Tariq Jamil had attended a Khatam-ul-Quran gathering and was already exhausted due to fasting, worship, exercise, travelling, and preparations for delivering a speech.

He clarified that the child shown in the viral video was not a stranger. The boy regularly stays at their madrassa and had already met Maulana Tariq Jamil several times in the past.

Yousaf Jamil said his father may have unintentionally ignored the child because of extreme tiredness and mental exhaustion at that moment. He stressed that such behaviour should not happen, but people should also leave room for human error and understand the situation before launching harsh criticism.

He appealed to social media users to maintain balance while discussing respected personalities and requested critics not to ignore the years of religious service, humility, and public connection associated with Maulana Tariq Jamil.
