However, experts say that chia seeds are not beneficial for every person. Their consumption can also prove harmful for some people. Experts said that in certain health conditions it is necessary to stay away from chia seeds. According to him, if not consumed in the right quantity and in the right manner, it can increase problems.
1. People with trouble swallowing
According to Dr. Sethi, chia seeds swell rapidly by absorbing water. If eaten dry, they may get stuck in the throat or food pipe. People who have difficulty swallowing or have a narrow esophagus should take special precautions.
2. People who suddenly consume more fiber
Two tablespoons of chia seeds contain about 10 grams of fiber. If a person suddenly starts taking excessive amounts of fiber, it may cause gas, flatulence and digestive problems. This problem may increase especially in people suffering from IBS i.e. Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
3. Patients taking blood thinners
The omega-3 fatty acids present in chia seeds have the effect of a mild blood thinner. In such a situation, people who are already taking blood thinning medicines should definitely consult a doctor before consuming it in excess.
4. People with serious intestinal problems
For people who have delayed emptying of the stomach, intestinal obstruction or serious digestive system problems, chia seeds can increase the problem. Its fiber, which absorbs water and forms a gel, can put additional pressure on digestion in some cases.
5. People with seed allergies
Although this is seen in rare cases, people who are allergic to seeds should avoid chia seeds. This may cause allergic reaction.
