Great win for CSK in a thrilling match, LSG close to being out of the playoff race.

New Delhi. In the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, on Sunday (May 10), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a thrilling win by defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 5 wickets. In this high-scoring match played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Lucknow, batting first, had given a target of 204 runs, which CSK achieved with 4 balls remaining. With this defeat, Lucknow’s playoff hopes are almost over.

Lucknow’s strong start, but collapse in the end

After losing the toss and batting first, Lucknow Super Giants scored 203 runs for 8 wickets. The team had a very fast start, where Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh made a partnership of 77 runs for the first wicket.




  • Josh Inglis played a stormy inning of 85 runs in 33 balls, which included 10 fours and 6 sixes. He completed his fifty in just 17 balls, giving Lucknow a fast start. However, as soon as he was out, the team’s innings faltered.

    Captain Rishabh Pant (15 runs) and Nicholas Pooran (1 run) were out early. Even in the middle order, wickets kept falling at regular intervals, due to which the team came under pressure.

    In the end, Shahbaz Ahmed scored unbeaten 43 runs in 25 balls and took the score beyond 200. For CSK, Jamie Overton took 3 wickets, while Anshul Kamboj took 2 wickets.

    Urvil Patel’s blast in CSK’s counter innings

    Chennai Super Kings had a fast start to chase the target of 204 runs. Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad made a partnership of 45 runs in 22 balls.

    Sanju Samson scored 28 runs in 14 balls, but after this the real show came from Urvil Patel. He created a stir by completing 50 runs in just 13 balls. In his innings, he hit 7 sixes and scored 63 runs in 23 balls.

    This innings of Urvil was jointly the fastest fifty in IPL history. However, Shahbaz Ahmed tried to make a comeback in the match by dismissing Urvil and later Ruturaj Gaikwad. Rituraj scored 42 runs.

    Finally CSK took command

    Chennai got into some trouble after some wickets fell in the middle order, but Shivam Dubey (15*) and Prashant Veer (18*) showed patience and took the team to victory.

    LSG out of playoff race

    With this defeat, the position of Lucknow Super Giants has become very weak. The team has won only 3 out of 11 matches so far and has only 6 points, due to which the race for the playoffs is considered almost over. Whereas Chennai Super Kings now have 12 points and the team has lost 5 out of 11 matches in the season.
