Somnath Amrit Mahotsav News Marathi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi Participated in ‘Amrit Mahotsav’ program organized at Somnath temple. Prime Minister Modi offered pooja at the temple. The grand culmination of the Somnath temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, was anointed with water from 11 holy shrines across the country. A special urn was used for this consecration. During this ceremony, holy water from 11 shrines was poured on the 90 meter high pinnacle of the temple. Artists from many states and audiences from far and wide came to participate in this special event.
Prime Minister Modi took part in a road show before participating in the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav at Somnath Temple. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi were also present on this occasion.

The festival is organized to mark the 75th anniversary of the inauguration of the temple after its reconstruction. Participated in the ‘Special Mahapuja’, ‘Kumbhabhishek’ and ‘Flag Hoisting’ ceremonies and also released a commemorative postage stamp and coin during the event. The event is a part of ‘Somnath Amrit Parv-2026’ campaign organized to mark 75 years of reconstruction and restoration of the temple.
When will this event take place?
The event will be held from May 8 to 11. The four-day event is organized to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the reconstruction of the first post-independence Jyotirlinga temple. Somnath Temple is considered as a symbol of revival of Sanatan heritage. It was rebuilt at the suggestion of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Deputy Prime Minister of India. According to the organisers, Kumbhabhishek will be performed for the first time on the summit of the reconstructed Somnath temple.
This ritual is particularly associated with temples in South India and is traditionally performed every 10 to 12 years as a purification ceremony. A special urn with a capacity of 1,100 liters has been prepared for this ritual. According to officials, the urn weighs 760 kilograms, and when filled with water, it will weigh approximately 1.86 metric tonnes. The kalash is eight feet tall and will hold holy water brought from 11 shrines. The kalash will be lifted to the top of the temple with the help of a 350 tonne capacity all-terrain crane stationed outside the temple premises. Officials said the boom of the crane has been specially extended to reach the peak height of 90 meters.
