India shines in ICC rankings, number-1 in ODI and also jumped in Test

In the latest ICC annual rankings, the Indian men’s cricket team has retained its number-1 position in the ODI format. In the new ranking released on Monday, May 11, India continues to top with 118 rating points. The Indian team, which won the Champions Trophy, has once again proved that its dominance in limited overs cricket continues. New Zealand is in second place, with 113 points, while Australia is at third place with 109 points.

India’s position is strong

India’s position remained strong in the recent update, while New Zealand’s rating saw a slight decline. In the ICC annual rankings, full importance has been given to the matches played after May 2025, while the results of the two years before that have got half weightage. On this basis, the new position of the teams has been decided.

South Africa has gained in ODI rankings. The team has achieved fourth position, leaving Pakistan behind. South Africa has 102 points in its account, while Pakistan has reached fifth place with 98 points. Apart from this, Sri Lanka is at sixth position with 96 points, Afghanistan at seventh position with 93 points, England at eighth position with 89 points, Bangladesh at ninth position with 84 points and West Indies at tenth position with 74 points.

The fight for ninth place is very important

In view of the ODI World Cup 2027, the fight for ninth place has also become very important. The teams finishing in the top eight by March 31, 2027 will directly qualify for the World Cup. If hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe remain in the top eight, then the ninth and tenth placed teams can also get direct entry. In such a situation, there is a tough competition between Bangladesh and West Indies.

At the same time, good news has come for India in Test ranking also. The team has jumped one place and secured third position. India now has 104 points and has left England behind, who are left with 102 points. In the Test rankings, Australia remains at the first position with 131 points, while the current world Test champion South Africa remains at the second position with 119 points.
