Such rain would not have been seen in the heat of May, Meteorological Department issued a warning
The month of May is usually known for scorching heat, heat waves and scorching winds, but this time the weather pattern is such that it has surprised people. In many states of the country, strong storm, thunder and heavy rain have changed the entire mood of the weather. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for several states in the next 24 to 48 hours. Movement of clouds continues from Delhi-NCR to Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while the threat of heat wave still remains in many areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat.
Strong winds and cloud movement were seen in Delhi-NCR since Monday night. According to the Meteorological Department, on Tuesday, May 12, there may be light to moderate rain in Delhi along with winds at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. There is a possibility of lightning and sudden strong storm in many areas. With this change in weather, the temperature is expected to drop and people may get some relief from the scorching heat. However, the Meteorological Department has clearly said that it is important to maintain distance from trees, electric poles and open spaces during bad weather.

Thunderstorm alert in these states
According to the latest update from IMD, the impact of heavy rain and storm may be seen in 19 states of the country within the next few hours. The Meteorological Department has said that at many places the wind speed can reach 80 to 85 kilometers per hour. There is a possibility of worsening weather in North India as well as in the states of Eastern and Central India.
Warning of rain and thunder has been issued in many states including Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh. The Meteorological Department says that incidents of lightning may also increase during this period, hence people need to be careful.
Impact of strong storm in Punjab-Haryana
The weather has wreaked maximum havoc in Punjab and Haryana during the last 24 hours. Due to strong storm and hailstorm in many districts, trees were uprooted and power supply was affected. People faced problems due to strong winds in many areas including Amritsar, Mohali, Patiala and Ludhiana. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the weather will remain bad here from May 12 to 13. The weather condition in Chandigarh, the capital of both the states, is similar and it has started raining since this morning. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of rain and thundershowers in Chandigarh and surrounding areas.
Weather in UP and Bihar
The weather is changing rapidly in Uttar Pradesh also. There is a possibility of strong winds and rain in many districts of western UP. Cloud cover and rain are expected in many cities including Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Moradabad, Bijnor, Bareilly and Lucknow. The Meteorological Department has said that hail may also fall at some places.
People seem to be getting relief after the scorching heat of the last few days in Bihar. Many districts including Patna are cloudy and light rain has been recorded. Yellow alert has been issued for several districts including Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Katihar and Purnia.

The weather remains extremely sensitive in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. There is a possibility of snowfall in high altitude areas along with heavy rain in the hilly areas. A large number of devotees are arriving in Uttarakhand during the Chardham Yatra, in such a situation the administration has advised the travelers to travel only after knowing the weather. Bad weather conditions also persist in the northeastern states. There is a possibility of rain today in many states including Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh.

Heat wave will continue in Rajasthan and Gujarat
On one hand, rains and storms are continuing in many parts of the country, while many areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat are still in the grip of scorching heat. The temperature in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner and Jodhpur is expected to reach 45 to 46 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department has issued a heatwave alert for these areas. However, light clouds and drizzle may be seen in some parts of eastern Rajasthan, but the chances of getting relief from the heat seem slim at the moment.
