Arcadia mayor resigns, admits to being an agent of China

Sacramento (California). Eileen Wang, the mayor of Arcadia city in Southern California, America, resigned from her post on Monday, admitting the crime of working as an agent of China.

The US Justice Department has confirmed this. Wang, 58, and her then-fiancé, Yaoning Mike Sun, are accused of working in the United States at the behest of Chinese government officials, federal prosecutors said.

Sun, 65, is serving a four-year prison sentence after pleading guilty in a federal court last October. Sun was arrested in December 2024. He was sentenced in February.

According to the report of The Guardian newspaper, in a plea, Wang has agreed to accept the charges against him in court. For this crime he can face a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Eileen Wang is also expected to plead guilty in federal court in Los Angeles. Wang was elected to the Arcadia City Council in November 2022. This council is a five-member governing body and the mayor is elected on a rotational basis.

According to the U.S. Justice Department, as part of their contract, Wang and Mike Sun, 65, of Yaoning, Chino Hills, worked in collusion with the People’s Republic of China.

He spread propaganda promoting China’s interests through a website, ‘US News Center’. The website billed itself as a news source for the local Chinese-American community.
