Mayawati’s attack on UP cabinet expansion…. Serious questions raised on Brahmin security, calling it a political gimmick

digital desk- After the recent cabinet expansion in Uttar Pradesh and the attack on a BJP leader in the capital Lucknow, the politics of the state has come to a boil. Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and former Chief Minister Mayawati has launched a scathing attack on the Yogi government through social media. Terming the cabinet expansion as ‘political manipulation’, he has raised the issue of insecurity of Brahmin community prominently.

Cabinet expansion: Public interest or political compulsion?

Mayawati said in her statement that expanding the cabinet may be an internal matter of the ruling party, but its real measure should be the benefit to the public. He argued that if this expansion does not improve the lives of the poor, labourers, farmers and youth of the society and does not ensure women’s safety, then the public will consider it a mere ‘political jugaad’ and an additional burden on the government exchequer. He stressed that the constitutional responsibility of the government and ministers is not just to hold office but to ensure security of life, property and religion of every section.

Expressed deep concern on the safety of Brahmin community

The BSP chief cornered the government by referring to the deadly attack on a young BJP leader belonging to the Brahmin community in Lucknow. He said that this incident has once again exposed the law and order situation of UP. According to Mayawati, under the present government the Brahmin community is not only feeling neglected but is also extremely unsafe. Recalling her tenure, Mayawati said, “During the BSP government, under the policy of ‘Sarvajan Hitaya, Sarvajan Sukhaay’, justice and security were given to all sections including the Brahmin community. Today’s situation is completely opposite to this, which is extremely worrying.”

Social engineering and the ‘Brahmin card’

Political experts believe that this statement of Mayawati is an attempt to revive her old social engineering (Dalit-Brahmin alliance). This equation played a big role in BSP forming a government with absolute majority in 2007. Now once again by making the ‘neglect’ and ‘insecurity’ of the Brahmin community an issue, she is preparing to make a dent in this vote bank. Mayawati gave a clear message that the weaker sections of the society should be seen getting justice in the activities of the government. He said in a warning tone that unless the common man feels safe, administrative reshuffles and expansions will remain meaningless.
