Raw mangoes are rich in fiber and acid. Consuming more of them can cause complaints of stomach pain, cramps and diarrhea. For many individuals, it can also trigger problems like constipation.

The upper part of the unripe mango contains a white, milky liquid called ‘cheep’ (sap). If this substance is not washed off properly – or if the mango is eaten in large quantities – it can cause throat irritation, itching and even infection.

Since raw mangoes are naturally very acidic, they increase the acid levels in the stomach. It can aggravate problems like heartburn and sour belching, especially in individuals who are already suffering from acidity.

The citric and malic acids present in raw mangoes can damage tooth enamel. Excessive intake can cause tooth sensitivity, making it difficult to eat hot or cold foods.

According to Ayurveda, excessive consumption of citrus fruits can increase ‘Vata’ dosha within the body. As a result, consuming large amounts of raw mangoes can be harmful for individuals suffering from arthritis or joint pain, as it increases both inflammation and pain.
