‘She spread Raita for me…’, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s big statement regarding Vinesh Phogat

New Delhi: On Tuesday, once again the stir in the world of politics and sports intensified during the hearing of the sexual harassment case of female wrestlers in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court. The court recorded the statement of the SIT member in the ongoing case against former BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Now the next hearing of this case will be on 15th and 19th May, where the statement of the investigating officer will be recorded.

Meanwhile, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s statement regarding Congress leader and star wrestler Vinesh Phogat also came into discussion. While talking to the media, he said that the atmosphere created against him is now being answered in the court. He also made it clear that allowing or stopping a player from playing is the decision of the current WFI and he has no role in it.

Hearing continues in court, rhetoric intensified outside

After the allegations of sexual harassment made by female wrestlers, this matter has been a topic of discussion across the country for a long time. Many famous players had agitated and demonstrations were also held in Delhi. After this, Delhi Police registered the case and started investigation. Now the hearing is progressing in the court, while on the other hand, the rhetoric between the leaders and the players is also increasing continuously. Brijbhushan Sharan Singh said that WFI is an organization formed for the benefit of the players and the association does not deliberately stop any player from competing. He said that if any player has been stopped, there could be a technical or rules related reason behind it.

Why did the dispute between Vinesh and WFI increase?

Actually, Vinesh Phogat’s return to wrestling came into controversy when WFI stopped her from participating in the National Open Ranking Tournament held in Gonda. This tournament was to be held between 10th and 12th May and through this Vinesh was going to return to the mat. But even before the competition, the federation sent him a 15-page show cause notice.

In this, allegations like indiscipline, violation of anti-doping rules, tarnishing the image of the federation and not following the rules were made. WFI also said that Vinesh will not be eligible to participate in domestic competitions till June 26, 2026. The federation says that players returning after retirement have to complete a mandatory notice period of six months under anti-doping rules. On this basis he was not allowed to participate in the tournament.

Sakshi Malik openly supported

Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik has supported Vinesh Phogat in this entire controversy. She said that in many countries, rules are relaxed to make it easier for female players to return after becoming mothers, but here their path is being made difficult.

Sakshi said in the video released on social media that players like Vinesh have won medals for the country and they should get a chance again. He appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Sports Minister and WFI to conduct a trial for Vinesh so that she can play for the country again.

Took retirement after Paris Olympics

It is noteworthy that Vinesh Phogat had announced her retirement from wrestling after being found 100 grams more than the prescribed weight limit before the final match during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Later she entered politics and was elected MLA from Julana assembly constituency of Haryana.
