Wheat production in Madhya Pradesh reached 365 lakh metric tons!

With increasing means of irrigation in Madhya Pradesh, the area under cultivation is increasing and the production is also increasing. This time more than 365 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been produced in the state, which is a record in itself.

Talking about wheat production, Madhya Pradesh has become ‘wheat state’. Madhya Pradesh’s contribution to the total wheat production of the country is 18 percent. This year wheat production has reached 365.11 lakh metric tons. Productivity has increased to 3780 kg per hectare.

The demand for Madhya Pradesh’s wheat remains constant in the international market. Due to natural sweetness, Sharbati and Durum wheat are in demand in countries like Germany, USA, Italy, UK, Dubai, South Africa.

According to officially received information, Madhya Pradesh’s contribution in wheat exported from India to foreign countries is 35 to 40 percent. The wheat of the state is being liked in Oman, Yemen, UAE, South Korea, Qatar, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, South Africa and Indonesia.

Wheat of Madhya Pradesh is most suitable for bread, biscuits and pasta. Talking about wheat production in the state, in the year 2004-05, wheat was grown only in 42 lakh hectares, which has increased to 96.58 lakh hectares today.

On the request of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the target of wheat procurement has increased from 78 lakh metric tonnes to 100 lakh metric tonnes. Wheat procurement is continuing in the state. Complete arrangements have been made for the farmers in the procurement centres. Wheat procurement will continue till May 23.

Wheat is being procured from farmers at the rate of Rs 2625 per quintal including support price of Rs 2585 per quintal and bonus amount of Rs 40 per quintal by the state government.

Let us tell you that Madhya Pradesh is also the largest authentic seed producing state in the country. The cooperative sector has become completely self-sufficient in seed production. More than three lakh farmers are associated with seed production companies.

These companies are now also involved in storage marketing and food processing. Farmer producer companies are being made stronger. With all these activities, Madhya Pradesh remains the leader in the nation in the production of not only wheat but also other crops.
