Former minister Baba Siddiqui was murdered on the night of 12 October 2024 in Bandra area of ​​Mumbai. At that time, he was present outside the office of his son and MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui, where three attackers killed him by firing bullets. At that time, Constable Shyam Sonawane was posted in the Protection and Security Branch of Mumbai Police and was appointed on the security duty of Baba Siddiqui. After the incident, he was suspended and a departmental inquiry was initiated. During investigation, Shyam Sonawane was found guilty of dereliction of duty, after which a show cause notice was issued to him, in which it was asked why he should not be removed from service. The police department later issued him a dismissal letter, which he accepted on May 2. He has been officially dismissed from service due to dereliction of duty. This action was taken after he was found guilty in the departmental investigation. At the same time, the investigation of Baba Siddiqui murder case is still going on and the police is investigating all the aspects related to this case.

Let us tell you that some time ago a special court in Mumbai has framed charges under MCOCA and BNS against 27 accused in the murder case of Baba Siddiqui. Charges have been framed against the accused under relevant sections of the BNS murder, MCOCA, Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act. According to the Indian Judicial Code (BNS), framing of charges is the first step in a criminal trial. Under this, the court formalizes the allegations on the basis of evidence.

The name of Lawrence Bishnoi gang had come up in the case of Baba Siddiqui’s murder. In this case, the police charge sheet has shown Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother Anmol Bishnoi as an accused. The prosecution has claimed that Anmol Bishnoi had allegedly conspired to murder Siddiqui with the intention of instilling fear and dominance over the crime syndicate.
