Mother Saraswati will return home! High Court’s decision on Bhojshala, hinted at bringing back the statue imprisoned in London
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh High Court has recently declared Bhojshala as the temple of Mother Saraswati. After this decision, Bhojshala is once again in the news, but this case is quite different from Ayodhya, Kashi or Mathura. Besides, there is also an interesting mystery attached to the ancient idol of Mother Saraswati which is spread from Dhar to London.
History of Bhojshala
Bhojshala is situated in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. This place was the capital of the great king Bhoj of the Parmar dynasty in the 11th century. Raja Bhoj was a scholar, art lover and writer. He made Bhojshala a major center of Sanskrit education.
There was also a temple of Maa Vagdevi (Saraswati), where students used to worship the goddess before starting their studies. In the 14th-15th century, invaders demolished it and built Kamal Maula Mosque.
Why is the case different from Ayodhya-Kashi?
This case is different from other controversies because Bhojshala is under the protection of ASI (Archaeological Survey) since 1909. Whereas the controversy had started since 1902 itself. Since 2003, Hindus were allowed to offer prayers and prayers on Tuesday and Muslims on Friday. Figures of Hindu gods and goddesses, Sanskrit inscriptions and havan kunds were found in ASI’s scientific survey. On the basis of this evidence, the High Court has considered it a temple.
The mystery of the idol of Mother Saraswati
Raja Bhoj had installed a beautiful statue of Mother Saraswati in Bhojshala. This statue disappeared after the attack. In 1961, famous archaeologist Dr. Vishnu Sridhar Wakankar went to London. In the British Museum he saw a statue which had been taken from the palace ruins of Dhar by Major Kinkaid in 1875.
Dr. Wakankar compared the style, posture, ornaments and inscriptions of the sculpture with Raja Bhoj’s book ‘Samarangan Sutradhar’ (The Science of Temple Construction). All the evidence matched. He proved that this was the same idol which Raja Bhoj had installed in Bhojshala.
High Court’s message to the government
The High Court has asked the Central Government to speed up efforts to bring back this statue from Britain. Even if the case goes to the Supreme Court, the issue of the idol of Mother Saraswati is above controversy. This is the cultural heritage of Dhar. When this statue returns and is installed at its original place, then the real history of Bhojshala will be complete.
