‘Do you want to stay in geography or become history?’ Army Chief’s biggest attack on Pakistan
New Delhi: Upendra Dwivedi, while showing a tough stance towards Pakistan, has clearly said that if the neighboring country continues to support terrorism, then it will have to decide whether it wants to remain limited to the map only or get lost in history. This statement of the Army Chief has come at a time when the discussion regarding relations between India and Pakistan has again intensified.
Upendra Dwivedi spoke at Manekshaw Center
In an interactive program organized at the Manekshaw Center in New Delhi on Saturday, General Dwivedi was asked what would be the reaction of the Indian Army if similar situations arise in the future like before Operation Sindoor last year. In response to this he said that India will not make any compromise on its security and sovereignty.
The Army Chief said that if Pakistan continues to provide shelter to terrorists and promote anti-India activities, the consequences for it could be serious. He indicated that India is now working on a more decisive policy against terrorism than before.
This comment of General Dwivedi has come a few days after the first anniversary of Operation Sindoor. This military operation was launched in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam last year. Many people lost their lives in that attack on April 22, after which India carried out precise air strikes on terrorist targets in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir on the morning of May 7.
Indian Army claims
The Indian Army had claimed that several launch pads and terrorist structures were targeted during the operation. After this, retaliatory action was also taken by Pakistan, due to which there was a tense military conflict between the two countries for about four days. This confrontation that lasted for about 88 hours between the two nuclear powered countries ended with a ceasefire agreement on the evening of 10 May.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has recently expressed its desire to restart talks with India. Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi described the demand for dialogue in India as a positive sign. He said that Pakistan wants the path of dialogue to remain open between the two countries. However, he also said that the official response of the Indian government will be awaited.
Experts believe that General Dwivedi’s statement is a clear warning to Pakistan that terrorism and talks cannot go together. India now seems to be adopting a more aggressive and clear strategy regarding cross-border terrorism than before.
