CBSE On OSM Controversy: CBSE responded to the on-screen marking controversy, reduced the fees for re-evaluation.

New Delhi. CBSE had also implemented On Screen Marking (OSM) for the 12th board exam of 2026. After the declaration of CBSE 12th board results, controversy has arisen on OSM. Many students have alleged that they have got higher marks in some subjects and lower marks in others. Students say that they had given better exams in subjects in which they got less marks. CBSE has now replied on this.

CBSE Secretary School Education Sanjay Kumar said on Sunday that OSM has not been used for the first time. It has been used before also. He said that students have some doubts about on-screen marking. Concern is being raised that children should have got more marks, but got less marks. CBSE official said that OSM is used in many countries of the world. Students who have any doubt about their marks being reduced can get the examination copy of the concerned subject re-evaluated. Sanjay Kumar said that CBSE wants the well-being of all children. He said that CBSE does not want students to feel that their qualifications are not being respected.

CBSE official said that there has always been an option for re-evaluation of board exam copy. CBSE has decided that if a student wants to get the exam copy re-evaluated, then only Rs 100 will be charged instead of Rs 700. Now only Rs 25 will be charged for re-checking each question. He said that the OSM scan was done in three layers. The mistake that used to happen in adding the total number through online checking has been eliminated. Teachers were also given training for this. Sanjay Kumar said that there were a total of 13000 such copies which could not be scanned properly. These were checked manually. CBSE scanned a total of 98 lakh board exam copies this year.
