Double attack of scorching heat in Delhi! Yellow alert issued for two days, danger of mercury crossing 45°C

New Delhi: The heat has started showing its fierce form in the country’s capital Delhi and its adjoining National Capital Region (NCR). Normal life is in complete disarray due to the strong sunlight and hot winds. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a big warning for the residents of Delhi-NCR.

45 degrees Celsius

According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature of Delhi may reach a record level of 45 degrees Celsius in the middle of this week, due to which there is a possibility of severe heat wave in many areas. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the department has also issued ‘Yellow Alert’ for two days. According to the bulletin issued by the Meteorological Department, there will be a ‘yellow alert’ of severe heat wave in Delhi and surrounding cities on May 19 and 20.

Between May 18 and 20, the temperature in Delhi is expected to be between 43 to 45 degrees Celsius. Between May 21 and 23, the temperature in Delhi will remain around 42 to 44 degrees Celsius.

Condition of rest of the states of the country

While the plains of north-western and central India will be in the grip of severe heat wave this week, the weather patterns will be changed in the hilly states. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds in Jammu and Kashmir on May 19 and 20 and in various parts of Uttarakhand during May 20 to 23.

Rain continues

On the contrary, heavy rains will continue in the states of South and North-East India due to monsoon activities. Heavy rain is expected in North-East India, West Bengal, Sikkim and Andaman and Nicobar Islands during the next one week. Also, there has been a warning of torrential rain in many parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and South Karnataka within the next three days.

Temperature crossed 40 in Safdarjung

The maximum temperature recorded at Delhi’s base station Safdarjung on Saturday was 40.8 degrees Celsius, which is higher than the normal average of this season. At the same time, the minimum temperature was 24.8 degrees Celsius. This is the second time in this current month when the mercury has crossed the 40 degree mark. Meteorologists predict that today and tomorrow, May 17 and 18, Delhi-NCR may experience severe heat as well as strong dusty winds at a speed of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour. During the day, the speed of these winds is sometimes likely to reach up to 40 kilometers per hour.
