Aloo Posto Recipes: It is not possible to talk about Bengali food and not mention Aloo Posto. This is a very popular and traditional dish of Bengal, which is known for its simple yet special taste. Very few spices are used in it, but the aroma of posto (poppy seeds) and mustard oil makes it extremely tasty. necessary materials
Potatoes: 3-4 (chopped)
Posto: 4 tbsp
Mustard oil: 3 tbsp
Nigella seeds: ½ tsp
Green chilli: 4-5
Turmeric powder: a pinch
Salt: as per taste
Sugar: a pinch
Method of preparation
- prepare poppy paste
Soak the poppy seeds in water for some time. Then drain the water and add some water along with 2 green chillies in the mixer and make a fine and thick paste. The smoother the paste, the better the taste.
- start roasting potatoes
Heat mustard oil in a pan and let it smoke lightly. Add nigella seeds and green chillies in it. Now add chopped potatoes and fry until light golden.
- mix spices
Now add very light amount of salt and turmeric in it. After this, add some water, cover it and let the potatoes cook till about 80%.
- add poppy paste
Now add prepared poppy paste to it. If you want, you can add some water to the jar and add the remaining paste. Add a pinch of sugar to it and stir well.
- final step
Cook the vegetable until the potatoes are well coated and the water dries up. Finally, before turning off the gas, add a little raw mustard oil and green chillies, which gives it the real Bengali taste and aroma. Hot Aloo Posto can be served with rice or roti.
