Chardham pilgrims cheated in Rishikesh, fake agent absconding

A case of cheating of travelers going on Chardham Yatra by an alleged travel agent has come to light in Rishikesh. It is alleged that along with collecting fare from the passengers, the youth also stole Rs 8000 from the Max driver.

Rishikesh: Cases of fraud among passengers are continuously coming to light during Chardham Yatra. In the latest incident, an alleged travel agent collected fare from passengers going to Kedarnath and gained trust by claiming to be related to the driver. It is alleged that during this period he also withdrew thousands of rupees from the Max driver, after which the Transport Department and local organizations have started investigating the matter.

Cheated passengers by taking fare

On Sunday morning, six passengers going to Kedarnath were made to sit in a Max vehicle by a young man posing as a travel agent. It is alleged that he collected fare of Rs 1000 from each passenger.

According to the Max driver, he had gone to collect his luggage for some time. Meanwhile, the accused youth sat on the driver’s seat and started introducing himself as a person associated with the vehicle in front of the passengers. The passengers also mistook him for the driver’s associate.

Driver accused of missing Rs 8000

The Max driver alleged that the youth took out around Rs 8000 from the money rack kept in the vehicle. As soon as information about the incident was received, people from the local trade association and transport organization reached the spot.

After some time, the driver and businessmen searched and caught the accused youth. After the incident, transport organizations raised the demand for action against fake travel agents and illegal vehicles.

Transport Department started investigation

Investigation into the matter has been started by Uttarakhand Transport Department. ARTO enforcement officer Rashmi Pant said that during interrogation the accused youth was saying that he was associated with some travel agency.

According to officials, the accused could not produce any valid license. Now the operator of the concerned travel agency will also be interrogated. It has been said that strict action will be taken if the role of the agency comes to light in the investigation.
